I stumbled on to ten keys to fast fitness today from the www.hussmanfitness.org site and I really wanted to share them with my readers because they are put very clear and dry.
1. Aerobic Exercise (3-4x a week, 20-40 minutes each depending on chosen intensity)
2. Cross-training
3. Interval training
4. Resistance training (with proper post-workout nutrition and recovery), 2-3x a week, 45-60 minutes each depending on intensity
5. WATER! I cannot stress enough how important water is - both within the food you eat and as your primary beverage
6. Four to six limited, balanced "fuelings" a day, containing adequate protein intake and low-glycemic carbs (to stabilize your blood sugar)
7. Proper nutritional support and supplements
8. Intentional caloric deficits (If you want to burn fat, you NEED to burn more calories than you take in. Just because you consume 'good' food doesn't mean you are losing weight. Most people believe they can eat more of it since it is better in nutrition, but is not completely true. Take it from someone who loves food! Haha)
9. Basic records and specific goals
10. Adequate rest (Sleep deprivation causes significant imbalances in several hormones - cortisol, ghrelin, and leptin. It also increases your desire of junk food, bad carbohydrates, reduces metabolic activity while you are awake, and prevents muscle growth.)
No time. SCHOOL.
ReplyDeleteGood post Jocelyn! I like how clear and forward this is too! It makes it seem so easy, like why is everyone in America obese when its this simple to be healthy haha? Keep up the great work :)
ReplyDeletePS: Thanks for the post on my blog!! Your hilarious! I loved the comment!! I replyed to it!! Check it out b/c I want you to listen to the song I told you about!! and I responded to your post on jens!! So remind me to let you try that tea too!! :)) thanks again girl!
ReplyDeleteI hear you, Jose!! Here is what I try to do. Every morning I wake up, just do 15 crunches and push-ups. I have not been stuck on this routine for several months now, but I plan to get back on it asap. It'll help you wake up to and get your body moving.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Meghan! It is because fast food has become ideal with the busy American life and nothing is in small servings anymore. I remember once when I ordered something from Checkers and asked for a small fry and coke, I swore they handed me an extra large. I'm worried to see what that size would be to them. Desk jobs and snacking on fattening foods can really take a toll on people. Even for people like this, it is best to get in as much exercise as possible. Instead of using the elevator, they should take the stairs. Switch out a fatty snack with some granola and fruit. I know coffee is a huge morning 'pick-me up' but if they ask for a skinny one with skim milk, then it is already better than the average coffee drinkers morning brew. There are plenty of tips around a busy schedule, but not everyone is aware of them.
ReplyDeleteAnd I checked it out and replied :) You are pretty hilarious yourself!! Haha thanks, love!
I love these tips! I am always looking for ways to improve my workouts and suggestions from others. It is so hard to get to the gym everyday when school consumes your life! I definitely am going to make note of these tips because they will come in handy for me. I like how the tips gave suggestions on workouts, health facts and motivation on how being healthy is not that hard. Thanks so much for sharing this, Jocelyn!! :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm. Jocelyn, I bet most of your fellow students don't understand the importance of the last item, adequate rest. Stay up all night to write a paper, then grab junk food. Burger King wins, students lose, so preach it, Girl.
ReplyDelete(P.S. Things haven't changed. I did the same thing when I was in school.)
I am definitely not getting my recommended dosage of water and sleep. It is so funny how basic human needs, water and sleep, can help with fitness and living better lives. Now if there was a water and straight sleep diet/workout, I would quit everything. This really convicts me to get back on track with my workouts. Will definitely have to print this and post it to my wall!
